The White Worm, and Val

Hello again friends. A blog post, this is one.

As per usual, I’ll mention the number of books I read and finished since last time. 4. Yup, a good number. However the issue of finding something to entertain me is here once more. I’ve jumped around a few books this time as I grew frustrated, and I’m afraid I’m here again. Luckily a new book in a series I follow should be coming out today, so I’ll have that. However that means I’ll now be putting yet another book aside. Since I’m bored, I suppose that’s reasonable, but I find it frustrating to leave things incomplete. Yet I’ve done it before, and it seems I’ll keep doing so.

Anyway, I watched a movie this weekend. It was called Lair of the White Worm. It stars Hugh Grant, and a young Peter Capaldi. It revolves around the legend about the old ruler of the land slaying the white worm, but now things are becoming strange in the area. Capaldi’s character finds a large skull while excavating outside the house he’s staying at, but it soon goes missing. And shenanigans ensue. The music to me sounds very similar to the soundtrack that Tangerine Dream put together for the movie Legend, which made me like this movie even more. Also the villain of the story, well, she’s fantastic. She does a great job of being seductive and menacing at the same time. The acting on the whole is great, and amusingly the dialogue is rather subdued most of the time. I looked forward to any phone calls had. They usually didn’t cut away to the other side of the call, and it was amusing to hear the random reactions needed to inform the audience what they were talking about. I’d give this one a watch if you have the time. It’s bizarre, and over the top at times, but mostly just interesting in how subdued everyone is.

Another thing I watched was a “Documentary” called VAL. It’s a film compiled from Val Kilmer’s collection of videos he’s made nearly his entire life. While Val can barely speak anymore, at the points things need to be said for any length of time his son steps in. You get to learn about his family, and what he’s been up to during his life. I found it interesting, and insightful. It makes the star a human, as it should. Give it a watch if you are interested in Val Kilmer on Amazon.

Otherwise I’ve continued to edit/write on the latest book. A few more edits were needed this time, as I misused a few words here and there. Luckily the program I’m using now has been catching them. Since I’ve gone away from the text to speech on this pass-through certain things are being caught that weren’t during the audi read through.

Anyway, that’s all I have for you this time. I hope you have a great week.

Another Week.

Hello all. Here I am again. Have a post.

As usual an update on the books I finished reading since last time. It was 4. Mind you I was almost done with one of them before I wrote last week’s post, so make of that what you will. Some fun stuff. I was mostly distracted by them.

As for what was going on, and what I watched to distract myself from the self knowledge of all of our inevitable end, mostly Saki K. It’s an anime that I’ve watched before, but it’s one of my favorites, so now and again I go back and watch it. Mind you this time I watched the dubbed version, at least for the two first seasons. Decent work, especially because the dialogue can go a million miles an hour, and sometimes I look away during my viewings.

Otherwise I’m watching the latest season of Disenchantment. I’m liking it. The dialogue is very fun and witty, so I can’t really complain. I’m taking my time with it though. I think I’m about halfway through it now. We’ll see how quickly I finish.

Did my editing, and it’s going well. No huge changes, but I’m still catching some inappropriate passive voice things. I’ve pondered the ending as well, and I think I’ve come up with something. I’ll have to change a couple of things in later chapters, but that’s easy enough. So things on this front are going well.

Anyway, that’s all I have for you right now. Have a great week.

Another Movie Night

Hello people. I have returned once more. Here, have a blog post.

Welp, it looks like I finished reading 3 books. It felt like more, but I’ve not been in the biggest reading mood recently. Nothing much of note to say about these books, but to say they were all sequels. Probably adding to me own struggle to continue to read. Only a few long-running series can keep my attention anymore. Oh well.

Up first is movies. Had another movie night, and our first selection was Highway to Hell. Was it good? Not really? Was it interesting, sometimes. Basically it’s about a couple running away to Vegas to elope. On the way the girlfriend gets kidnapped by Hell Cop on a long stretch of desert road. He takes her to Hell, so the boyfriend has to make his way down through Hell to rescue her. Several actors that you’d know make an appearance, but it really doesn’t help to make it all that much more entertaining. There were a few moments of entertainment besides what was presented, like watching the Devil’s eyes slowly rotate out of alignment… his contacts just wouldn’t stay in place. Otherwise, just a mediocre film.

Next was a movie called Runaway. Staring Tom Selleck, whom I couldn’t remember his name for a minute and wound up calling him Salma Hayek instead, so that persisted as we watched. Anyway, Tom’s character is a cop who hunts down malfunctioning robots, and puts them down. He gets a new partner, so love interest obviously, and they do their job. It appears someone has been tampering with some of the runaways they’ve been taking down. So they attempt to track down what’s going on. Looks like Gene Simmons is in this film, so he’s the bad guy right? Well watch it and find out, because we had tons of fun watching it. The only strange thing was that this movie came out in 1984, but because Tom looks so much older than he did in Magnum P.I. I thought it came out much later. It’s fairly futuristic for the time, so good job guys.

Otherwise I just did my writing/editing, so that’s good. Book is still coming along. YAY.

That’s all I have for you this time. I hope you have a great week.

A Winter Wonderland

Hello again. How are you? Me? Well, I’m still alive… whew.

First up, just to get it out of the way, how many books have I read since last time? Two. Yup, that’s it. One of the two books was rather longer than usual, so I blame that. I still spent around the same amount of time reading, so I suppose the longer book… well just took longer. I’d been waiting on the longer book for awhile now, so I was happy to see it randomly pop up in my recommended feed. Amazon Kindle had changed a bit from what I had grown used to, and instead of listing the next books in series in a section, I had to hunt things down for a week. It’s back to normal now, I think, so that’s nice.

Anyway… winter. This last year I moved, reasons included a flooding bedroom, and no help. However, this led me to move quite a bit farther than I had been from work. Twice as far in fact. My 20 minute drive turned into a 40 minute one. I’ve grown used to it, and my podcast listening has jumped way up. There were some weeks, during Christmas especially, where I listened to music instead, but that caused issues with sleeping. Well, it turns out snow, and the lack of its removal can severely increase my drive time. Especially since I had a little car. So instead of just popping into my car and going, I had to of course scrap off ice and snow. But also I had to use my snow shovel to dig myself out. Maybe if I worked a day shift it would have been taken care of before I had to leave, but unfortunately no. So my drive to and from work increased to nearly an hour and a half. For two days! I nearly spun my car on a section of road that I had to change lanes in to get to the road I needed. Turn into the spin people, turn into the spin. Thank goodness I’ve driven in this type of environment for years, otherwise I could have easily ended up in a ditch, or smashed by the semi that felt it necessary to drive too close to me. Ah, Hell is other people. An empty road, I would have been fine, though likely slower with no one blazing a trail, but with everyone else sliding all over the place it was almost a game of bumper cars. Hopefully on my next trip to work things will have cleared up. Fingers crossed.

As to watching things, I dunno. Not much to report. Still watching Night Court, though not binging it. I’ve been watching a guy called Car Pal on YouTube who is using a program called Beamng to create different car situations. Speed bumps seems to be one of his main focuses. I find it amusing. Also I learned a bit about 2b2t, the world’s oldest anarchy Minecraft server elsewhere. Interesting stuff.

Of course I did some editing. This time only a few things popped out, still passive voice things, everything else was fine. Shopkeep vs Shopkeeper was a thing, but I worked it out. The book is coming right along.

Anyway, that’s all I have for you this time. I hope you have a great week.
