Just another day of Editing

I just finished reviewing the last page of my second book. I think it looks pretty good already, but I would like another opinion. Perhaps I’ll start over from the first page and work my way through once more, but for now I’m thinking of moving on to the third book while I wait for my editor again. The process is time-consuming, nearly as bad as writing, but it does smooth things out. I’ve already went through the first part of the third book once before, but I think it could stand another look.

I’m hoping to get this second book out before the end of November, and if my luck holds the third book perhaps in January if not earlier. That way I’ll have three books for people to look at, and it’ll be a complete series and not just one of three. I know I get frustrated sometimes when I pick up a new book, and only after finishing it realize it is part of a series not yet completed. Hopefully I can satisfy those who wish to know what happens to Michael, and hopefully it’ll be soon.

Update –  Several pages edited, and now I’m done with my personal review of the second book though I may go back again a few times before publishing. Lucky I can read very quickly, though I do slow down to check for errors.

Shouting into the Ether

Do you know what it is like to have something to say, something important, and have no response? I try very hard to think up something interesting, or important, to write here daily and very little happens because of it. I think this is normal, and I’ve expected it, but is still disheartening. Perhaps I am not the most eloquent person on the planet, and perhaps what I have to say is not important to others, but I still find it strange there is so little interaction. Then again do I respond to others?

Rarely do I like, favorite, or follow someone on here, or elsewhere. Before I would do so immediately, but I soon realized people who do so are just looking for more followers and could care less about what you have to say. Perhaps I’ve said things that made those few who do actually follow me, to read what I say, not wish to be associated with me. There is nothing wrong with that, I just find it interesting there has been very little in the way of interaction lately.

I do notice people on twitter retweet or follow me daily, and for that I’m grateful, but mostly I think it is because I’ve used hashtags. As for Tumblr it seems if I write poetry, especially about love, that is the only time I gain a new follower, or a repost. Google Plus is dead, and Facebook is nearly the same way. I have my posts here cross posted to Goodreads and Amazon’s author blogs, and I’ve seen no interaction at either place, which I find unusual. I’ve also posted a few times to Reddit, and only a few times did I see any traction from there. If I were to make my book free at some point I’m unsure if anyone would even look at it.

Are we all so self-centered that we only look for people who are saying what we want to say, and then point to them to illustrate our opinions? Do I do this? If you follow my twitter feed you will see that I like several videos a day, and not all of them are just amusing. Some of them have things to say that I think are important and I think they illustrate the point I would have. So perhaps I am no different. I find it an unusual trait to possess, but understandable. On the internet we only look at the things that we like, and shun the rest as if what they have to say is inherently idiotic.

A person who is a Republican on Reddit would be downvoted into oblivion, and the same goes with anyone who doesn’t agree with the global warming trend. Even if they have valid points for either they will be ignored simply because they are different and challenge the viewpoints held by many. At that point it is useless to try to have a conversation with people who have different opinions than you, and you will never learn why others hold them. You won’t learn, you won’t grow, you will stagnate. This is normal human behaviour, and all you have to do is look at how long it took for Newtonian Physics to be replaced with Einsteinian. Even scientists are not beyond this, even though they claim to use the scientific method, it can still take a generation for a new theory to be recognized as better, or more valid.

In the end we are all inherently selfish, and there are good reasons to be so. Those who claim to be otherwise are either self-deluded, or lying. However knowing this we can work together and find a mutually beneficial world in which to live in. I will help you if you help me. This is how civilizations work, and to do otherwise causes their downfall.

Book Ideas, and being impatient

It seems I’m always dreaming up some story. I really look forward to beginning writing from on of the half-dozen or so ideas I have. The only problem I have is I can’t decide which one to work on first. Should it be a more serious book, or should it be one of my more satirical stories?

Another issue I have is that I have two books that I need to get edited first. I can only do so much myself, and I’m doing all I can right now, but I need my editor. She seems to be very busy lately, which surprises me since she supposedly was to have more free time this month. I think we’ve only been able to get together a few times, but each time we wind up talking more than we edit. Perhaps it is my fault as I wind up being secluded most of the time. Even as anti-social as I am I still desire to talk with someone. Perhaps if I got my fill by talking with my on-line friends I wouldn’t have this issue, yet it is always different in person.

In the end I am writing down more ideas than I have time to work on them right now, but that means I’ll have a back log to call upon when I get the free time. So far I have finished hashing out a rough draft of this series, and I can’t wait to begin either a new one, or simply a single book. I could easily write a short story, but I happen to prefer a longer format. Yes simple ideas are best expressed shortly, and I can do that, but I personally am more entertained by novels. The only time I read short stories is when they are in a compilation from an author I already like. Otherwise I find myself bored and wishing to read something longer.

Hopefully I will get these last two books edited and released shortly, then I can really start on another idea. All of this is exciting, but I’m looking forward to meeting whomever I invent next.

Love, and Masks

The lines of fate draw us near

but others will pull us apart

They try to kill

the love that grows in my heart

But what is love

that question lingers on my mind

such a simple word

that is so hard to define

I wish to live my life

with those I love by my side

to nurture and care for you

our lives forever tied

I might offer a ring

or a token of love

but does that convey

the feelings I conceive of

The face you show the world

is not as you truly are

but I know you best

you are my shining star

We hide behind our masks

but show our faces to few

but to each other

we reveal what is true

We are all shy and afraid

with no confidence to speak of

but when we are met with opposition

we put on our façade

Together we grow our arsenal

our powers amass

Perhaps we can accomplish

our goals at last

My love never dies

and hardly has it ever faded

it may be

that our love was fated

What am I thinking of? Answer

Banks aren’t your friends.

Corporations aren’t your friends.

Governments aren’t your friends.

Shouldn’t you only trust your friends?

Six degrees of separation.

What am I thinking?

I look forward to any replies. I will respond Monday with an answer.

—————————————————————————————————

It is Monday, and now I suppose I must respond. What I am thinking of is a society where your exchanges are with those you know. You certainly can strike a bargain or an agreement with a stranger, but why would you when you wouldn’t have to? If you need to borrow money you could get together with several of your friends, and their friends, to receive a loan. If you needed something made or have need of a product, couldn’t you go through your friends until they eventually turn up someone who has the ability to fashion what was needed? And for governments, who has need of that when you are surrounded by people you know and trust?

Yes this idea is a strange one, and perhaps it would not work. There are issues with the idea of tribes in this mindset because of the desire to expand and get more resources, but with the internet our tribe spans the world. There are several global tribes, and I’m sure if you are part of the internet you are in one. We have no use for a governing body, we govern ourselves. Sure bad eggs get in sometimes, but eventually we shun those who do not respect others. They are then cut off from our resources and must search for somewhere else to call home.

I am grateful to those who have allowed me in among themselves, and I return to them the skills that I have for use of their time and effort. We trust each other enough to have this sort of exchange, though of course money is harder to come by in larger chunks. However if several of us join together we might be able to offer the larger loans to those we trust so they may purchase larger things. With a return in mind this seems a valuable exchange.

Our skill sets are expansive, and I could easily see one of my friends being able to create most anything for use. It is an interesting world we are heading into, as long as we are allowed to continue on the path that we are on now. If we are hindered it is likely to degrade, and it may be we will sadly be restrained from our current communication. I hope that we are all allowed to explore the current amazing world of instant communication globally.

Third book’s first draft finished

I’ve done it. I’ve finished the Outsider Series. There were days when I thought I would never reach this point, especially while writing this third book. I wanted it to be entertaining and have many twists and turns, and it seems I’ve done it. It is done, and like the second book just needs some editing. I’ve already reviewed the first half myself a few times, but of course I need other eyes than mine to tell me what I’ve done wrong.

Sadly the second book has not been reviewed at any point this week. As I’ve been sick I think it is for the best that my editor was unavailable, but it still brings me frustration knowing that it could have been polished a bit more. I hope to see them next week, but I have no guarantee about their schedule.

I feel a bit better today, but I will not allow that to trick me into doing activities that I am not ready for. Sadly, for me, it has been a beautiful week, and I feel anguish at the lack of bike riding I could have done. Though it appears that my local trail is closed right now. That is most unfortunate because last year at this time is when I was having the most fun. The fall is so beautiful that I am filled with awe at what this Earth has been able to produce. Listening to podcast while I ponder many things helped me so much last year that without it now I’m feeling let down. I still am an avid listener, but I only give myself the opportunity to listen while I run, bike, or clean the house. Since I’ve been sick I’ve fallen massively behind and have to pick and choose the most important ones.

In the end I am ecstatic to see that I was once more able to finish a book, and look forward to seeing what the artist’s rendition of the world will look like for the cover. I will now be spending my time editing and going over on my own while I wait for the editor to help me. It helped massively last time, and perhaps I will be a better writer for it. I look forward to hearing from all of you who read it.

Update –  1,500 words written today, and I think its done. Whew, even while sick, and perhaps because of it, I’ve really knocked out a massive number of words on this one. For me that is, heh.

Still sick, but productive

Well I don’t feel much better compared to yesterday, but I had a dream and it compelled me to write. A fully formed vision of the way to end this book came to me, and instead of wasting my time sleeping I got up early to write. Certainly I wasted some time eating, but for the last several hours I’ve done nothing but pound keys while listening to music.

If I said anything about this vision it might ruin the fun of reading the book, because it explains so much. This may have been my best day writing, though I seem to recall other easy days. In the end I wrote more than 3,000 words which I think makes up for the lost day. That being said since I put so much of myself into it I have nothing else to say.

The book is almost done, and perhaps if I start feeling better it will be done next week. I thought I would be able to finish it today, but scenes need to be developed and not just outlined. I knew exactly what to say, but it does take time to write it all down, and even more time to make it coherent. I hope you enjoy this series, I’ve enjoyed writing it. Now back to bed with me.

In bed sick

It always my illness has returned unread of drifting away like I thought it did yesterday. This means I’ve taken a day of from writing, which I rarely do. I hope to be better soon, but until that time I will be focusing on getting better.

Thank you to those who purchased my book, as I’m finally getting the royalties. I may have to spend it on a doctor’s visit. I think I’ll stop here, I’m too tired to concentrate. Good day to you all.

The Insanity of being a Writer

I’m feeling much better today. It seems I had to sweat out the sickness again, and am now covered in it. Wearing layers and layers of clothing while sitting on a heat pad seems to have done the trick, and I think I’m healthy once more.

Today was a very productive day. Instead of my usual bare minimum of 1,000 words I went way over 2,000 words. I was going to stop, but the words kept happening. I’m glad of this because it means I just that much closer to having this book be completed. I like writing it, but I thought I would be done long ago. It has already been about three weeks since I reached my desired words count, but there was not an ending scene. I’ve had suggestions just to write a fourth book, but the arcs I had originally made were in three main parts. I can’t imagine what a fourth book would be about. I shall just have to wrap it up the best I can. Perhaps I’ve no skill at endings, much like Snowcrash’s ending, but I think I’ve got a handle on it. Give me another week or two and this book’s first draft should be done. I know I said that before, but I think I’m reaching the actual end now.

I used to think that an author who wrote two books in a year was crazy, but now that I’m almost done with three I know they are. A person should not write this much in a year, but since I’ve nothing better to do, why not? Perhaps I’m mad, but at least I’m getting results. Maybe later I will take a slower pace, but that will have to wait until sales start being more substantial. I am crazy thinking that I’ll take off in the next few months, but what do I have to lose if they don’t? I already quit my job, and have spent all this time writing. This was my life’s dream, and here I am accomplishing things daily. This has been the most personally rewarding endeavour I’ve ever experienced. If you get the opportunity to do something you love, even if you risk everything, I highly suggest you try it.
