Hamish Macbeth, and Dayshift

Hello again everyone. Here I am, and here is another post.

So I only got around to reading 5 books this past week. Wound up watching a bit of a show on Amazon instead. Hamish Macbeth. Outstanding show, I really love it. It’s quite a comfort, and the town this character resides is quite quaint. It’s about Hamish, a small town(single road) constable. It’s a Scottish town, and all the folk are always up to something. As constable he goes about making sure things work out, even if the locals are breaking some sort of law. He really doesn’t want to arrest anyone, so he looks the other way, and at times helps them out with their shenanigans just so he doesn’t have to write up a report. He loves the town, and never wants to leave, so he makes sure he looks just competent enough that he can stay, but not so excellent at his job that he’s promoted to another town.

Anyway, I’ve really not much else to talk about right now. I wound up having to take a couple of shifts over the weekend, daytime, so I’ve not slept very well. As I expected the daylight didn’t do me any good, felt a bit ill all day. However it wasn’t all bad. I got a lot of steps in so was able to evolve a Pokemon, and I lost a few pounds.

The weekend shifts are bit harsher on the old body, quite a bit more walking in the day. However it’s nothing compared to what I was doing to myself at my last position. Even with the extra hours on shift I don’t get close to the mileage I was putting on myself there.

Anyway the place was buzzing with activity, extra shifts for everyone, so there was the addition of conversation constantly surrounding me. Not something I’m used to anymore, so that was yet another vector in my overall wellbeing. I tell you, working in silence and darkness for so long has really worn away my ability to ignore what people are saying around me. My poor mind constantly is trying to work out any conversation. If it had only been one group of people talking that would have been no issue, but since it was multiple groups, all working hard at solving issues, my brain kept trying to understand everything all at once. Quite a headache. I wish them all luck.

So, I suppose that’s it for this week. Sorry it wasn’t much, but I’m rather tired as I’ve mentioned. I do hope you all have a great week.

Dragon Ball and Witcher

Greetings one and all. I’m back, and here’s the scoop.

Seven more books read, and 45 for the year so far. Neat. I think I should be doing other things though, so maybe I’ll get back to messing around in GIMP soon, but I haven’t decided yet. It’s a lot of work, and since I’m not great I’ve not much to show for it when I get done for the day. Oh well, just a passing thought.

Honestly if I want to get back into it I’d want to give Linux a fresh install. I was having quite a bit of issues with crashing, or the programs I was playing around with going wonky after a bit. Sigh, but I’d need to back up some files. Too bad I don’t have a hard drive to back up things. After so many years all of my hard drives I have are already filled up with the random things I’ve collected over the years. That and some of them just don’t work anymore. A sigh for all my lost files.

Anyway I watched a couple of things over the weekend. The first was the latest Dragon Ball movie, Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Well, it was pretty enough at the beginning. Too bad it messes with what we had already for Bardock. Other than that it’s a better back-story for Broly. Instead of wanting Goku dead just because he cried when he was a baby, heh. This time King Vegeta simply wants him gone because his power level, or potential was greater than his son’s(Vegeta). I will say all the way up and into the first fight with Vegeta the movie looked wonderful. After that things got a little wonky. Character design started going off model, and the faces and such were all over the place. Not to mention the music they started playing was more in line with wrestling themes played when a fighter enters the arena. It had some decent funny moments, but the fights weren’t as good as some others in the past. Though when Vegeta and Broly fought at for the first time it looked amazing. Otherwise a decent film if you are into DBZ.

Next I finally finished the Witcher. Awhile ago I watched the first couple of episodes and wasn’t sold. I didn’t find it fun, and there wasn’t much to hook me. However when talking with other people and seeing reviews I decided to keep pushing on. After the third episode I was hooked, and watched a few more episodes. Then I kinda drifted off to other things. But last night I finally watched the rest of the series. I actually liked it quite a bit. Unfortunately I think the last episode felt a bit rushed when wrapping up a couple of story lines, but other than that and the first couple of episodes I’d say it’s well worth the watch. I will say the way the time-line jumps around makes a bit difficult to follow at first when you don’t know when things are happening, but you get used to it after awhile. I will say the only story line that I actually enjoyed was Geralt’s. Watching him on his wacky adventures was tons of fun. I do so enjoy watching a straight man in a crazy world deal with the insane. His use of the “F” word when he’s getting tired of the insane situations was always amusing. I’d say give it a go if you are into fantasy.

Other than that I did my writing. Things are going alright. Had a bit of an issue today getting things together, but it all worked out. Just took a bit more effort. So at least I’m still on track with that.

Anyway, I hope you all have an enjoyable week.

Where to Watch?

Hello again. Heres another weekly update… surprise!

Um, no surprise here, sorry. Anyway, what have I been up to? Not much really. Just reading and stuff. Normal really. Seven books read this week, 38 for the year. I’m doing pretty good. I’ll probably ease off again after a bit, don’t want to get burned out after all, but so far I’m still having fun.

So trolling around Netflix, searching for something silly to watch, I stumbled across Naked Gun. Well, first I tried watching a movie called ZOOM with Tim Allen… only made about 12 minutes into it before we called it quits. Anyway, Naked Gun. What a fun movie. I had watched it long ago, but I say it still stands up pretty well. I could do without all the fart and pee-pee humor, but still a good watch. I do so love a straight man delivering outrageous lines. So it was nice to see something a little ridiculous to watch there on Netflix.

Usually when I want to watch something weird or just so bad it’s good I turn to Amazon. They tend to have taken every movie they can get their hands on and made it available. Good or bad, doesn’t seem to matter too much. And I thank them for that. I do so love watching some of the crazy b films that never caught on. Most of the times the very fact they got made makes you wonder about the sanity of people.

I have a few other apps or streaming services that I’ve put up on the old playstation, but really only those two get used. Well, I say that, but the YouTube app is on almost all the time. Most of the time I can find something to sate some weird curiosity I have at the time, or since I’m subscribed to several creators I’ll be able to watch their stuff. Unfortunately it seems things aren’t going well for those said creators… again. Issues keep cropping up, and while you and I might not think that they could make money making these videos, they do. Or have, and are reliant on the service to get paid. I’d say, after about the dozenth or more times that this has happened it might be time to get out. But where to go? Thats the real question. Perhaps there is some service out there that would gladly host all this content, but the real issue is getting us all to follow… that and making it easy to watch. What app would that be on the Playstation for instance? I can’t say right now, but maybe some ingenious individual will make something, and at least there’d be bit more competition for the creators, and better conditions for them as well.

Anyway, I rambled enough. Just random thoughts again, hopefully you all don’t mind too much. Have a great week.

How to Mock In D&D

Howdy y’all. Been another week if’n ya noticed, and wouldn’t you know, here I am again.

So what have I been up to? Well, I did some writing obviously. I just invented a knew character for the book I’m writing. He just kinda showed up and is throwing monkey wrenches around in spades. So that’s fun. So that part of my life is going well enough.

Also, I finished the last part of Bojack Horseman. Oh man, this show was great. I’m sad to see it go, but I feel a bit happy that it ended before it lost what made it good. It starts off silly, the series, but by the time you really get into it you start noticing how sad everything is. Even while you laugh, you will be crying. At least I did. I can’t recommend it enough. Poor Sarah Lynn.

Anyway, I also had the chance to play a bit more D&D this weekend. So here’s what happened. Or a close approximation based on my memory. I’ll note another player reads my posts and says I get things all wrong, but hey, it’s what I recall.

So last time we’d just taken out the guards to a fortification. Peaking in we only saw three orcs inside, so we partially blocked the door so only one could get at us at a time. One of us attacked, and failed to do much, leaving our three enemies to charge at us. And wouldn’t you know it, I got hit by all three and lost several HP to their attacks. Dang it, why did that Firbolg push me to the front of the fight? I’m the squishyiest.

Anyway, after we all took our turns to attack we finished them quickly. Blocking the door we rested and healed up. I think I was the only one to take damage. I guess I was the meat shield again for that encounter.

After that we heard a voice shouting at us. It said we had passed his test and that he’d like to talk to us. Well, we discussed it for a minute, and let him approach with his two guards. He said he’d like us to come in and talk. Well, my little gnome bard felt it was a little fishy, that and our Monk wasn’t going to go for it since she distrust orcs since they killed her family, so when they got close enough I attacked with my Vicious Mockery. I landed a hit on a couple. Of course the DM asked what I said to mock them so. Thinking quickly, I said that their women look like men. That offended two of them, but their leader didn’t take offense, and said I couldn’t handle their women. Well, since it was a surprise attack I was able to take another move, which I did by mocking him. It landed this time. The DM asked what I mocked him with. Um… well, I said something about him having tiny equipment. That seemed to do the trick. Unfortunately this meant that all three were coming for me, so I hid behind the door, and behind the monk.

We all took turns damaging them, and eventually they all went down. But we saw a trap door in the back of the fortification, and as is our want, the Firbolg took a big rock and placed it over the top of the door.

We left quickly, and headed back to town. It was going to take some time. On our way we saw a dragon fly over head, and we all hid as best we could. It looked like it was heading toward the town. I started singing a song about how we should just leave and head away from the threat. And that was the end of the session.

I think it’s safe to say we all had fun. I got a bit of RPing in while fighting, so I was happy. And the rest got to enjoy fighting. So that was it.

Anyway, I think it’s time for me to go. I hope you all have an enjoyable week.
