Collaboration, not editing

Hello once more. Just your friendly neighborhood writer man back again to talk about my week.

I wrote every single day, save Saturday this past week. It made the week go by quicker, and I felt accomplished. Even though I’ve not really been back in the habit of doing so, it seems to be coming easy. At least most days.

Last night I only wrote around 500 words, but I made up for it today. I went to bed early, so I was able to wake up early and tackle what I wasn’t able to do the previous night. I suppose that’s alright, even though I attempt to write at least 1,000 words a day.

The story is coming along nicely, and the co-author is doing an amazing job. Not only for keeping me on task, but also pointing out places that could be improved. Which lead me to watch things that I wouldn’t have usually, just to get a better feel for the character interaction I wanted for two of the individuals in this story.

It’s nice having someone willing to work with, and help the writing process. I think that while I had several people help edit/proofread my last several books, this is more direct, and helps shape the story before it is somewhat more congealed into a book. Meaning once I get my first draft done it is a larger hastle to re-write large sections of it when things change too much. I’ve done it, and will likely do it again, but this way there is someone really watching the book grow before it gets to a point where large sections need to be scrapped to make it read better.

This all being said, we’re at about 25% finished with the first draft, and it’s going very well. I look forward to seeing you next week.

Another week of writing

I set myself a task, and I have reached my initial goal for this previous week. I had hoped to keep up the pace that I had gotten into the previous week, and I have.

What does this mean? It means I wrote nearly every day. It also means the book is taking shape much faster than ones I was trying to write while working my previous job. It is these little goals that make taking on a larger goal, like writing a book, feasible. I hope to keep up this pace.

So if you have something large and difficult to do, and if that is something that will take a long time, break it up into little landmarks. Each day I write I force myself to at least write a certain amount, and that makes each day one step closer to having an even bigger goal attained. Eventually I’ll have yet another book written.

I’ve very excited. This week I’m up to 18% completed on the first draft.

The Book Grows!

Greetings friends,

I have returned, and with good news. What might that be you ask? Only that I’m writing. That doesn’t seem surprising for a writer to be doing, but here is the thing. I’m writing much more than has been usual for more than a year, and perhaps more.

I’d taken it upon myself to at least write once a week when I found employment again, and there for a year I did as I wished. But when faced with the challenge of working nights in my new position I found it nearly impossible to do so. So what I’m doing now surprises me greatly. Today marks the third day in a row that I’ve set myself before my keyboard and pounded out a multitude of words in a narrative fashion.

To me this book seems to be growing at a breakneck speed. My previous post marked what I would like to call 6% completion of the first draft. That took a couple of weeks. But now I’d like to say I’m somewhere in the range of 13%.

Of course I’m not alone in writing this particular book, so it perhaps is easier. We work things out verbally and take it in turns to write. I find this to be helpful, and it certainly has geared up my enthusiasm.

If things continue at this pace, which I’m not entirely sure will happen, the first draft could be completed much sooner than anticipated. As I’m very fond of what we are making I find myself making time where I didn’t think I had it to write even a little something.

So the conclusion: I’m feeling rather good right now about writing again. I always have the urge to write, but I’ve felt tired for far too long. I’m still very tired, and my nights are very long, but when I awake I now wish to partake upon a journey of story telling again.

I’m still writing, I swear!

Hey you, its been awhile. So, what have you been up to?

Me? Oh I’ve just been slowly working to make myself adapt to this schedule of mine. But you’re likely here to hear about what writing I’ve been doing, right?

Okay, here goes. I’ve done a little writing, but mostly trying to keep myself on schedule for the work I’m doing. I sleep from 8 or 9 am until about 5pm. So yeah, I suppose I could get up and write, like I’ve done today, and a few other Mondays, but mostly I’m too tired to do much.

BUT…

I’ve started yet another book. Now I’ve not talked much over the last several months, at least here, but I’ve started and been writing a few other books. Unfortunately I most do a few thousand words and move on. However, this new one seems to have a mind of its own and is going very well.

I do have another book that is much further along, but it isn’t holding my attention, though I very much love the characters. What I’m writing now is a bit irreverent, so in its humour I’m much more inclined to write for it. I’m always in need of a little smile. That and I have a person I’m collaborating with, so that helps a huge amount.

Perhaps I’m just excited to see another person dip their toes into writing. They’ve written several other stories, or at least have outlines for them, and I’ve been told about them over the years. I’m interested in having them finish their work, so I’m hoping working with me will encourage them to write and publish the stories they’ve told me about.

I’m not sure how often I’ll post on here, as I’m spending most of my extra strength writing this book, and it does take time to come up with things for here. I know, doesn’t seem like it does it? But while I do think it’s important to post what’s going on in my life, I find it more important to try to craft a narrative.

I wish you luck in your ventures, and I hope to have another book for you…. soonish? It’s hard to tell.
